The Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop is a course offered each semester of the academic school year. Although the workshop is primarily composed of music majors, non-music majors are also welcome to participate.
The objective of the Kentucky State University Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop in Frankfort is to expose students to both genres Opera and Musical Theatre with the goal of executing good vocal habits, furthering the musical foundation of aural skills and exploring the body of literature that encompasses music of the theatre.
To date, the singers in the Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop have performed scenes from the composers of the great operatic masterpieces of Bizet (Carmen); Mozart (Le Nozze di Figaro); Verdi (La Traviata); Verdi (Rigoletto); Delibes (Lakme); Offenbach (Tales of Hoffmann); popular Musical Theatre works from Les Miserables; Phantom of the Opera; Candide; Evita; The Lion King and many more.
2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016 GALA Performances were recorded by Frankfort Plant Board Cable Television 10 with the performances available in high definition.
Commonwealth of Kentucky Governor Mathew G. Bevin on April 20, 2017 issued a Proclamation proclaiming
KSU OPERA/MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP DAY on April 25, 2017.
When we are not preparing for 'GALA' we are performing in other venues outside of Bradford Hall Little Theatre making special guest appearances on Froggy Radio Station 104.9 FM and 101.7 FM or even stopping by ABC 36 Television "Midday Kentucky" for LIVE performance. We love being out and about performing.
Exciting News!!!! The Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop has entered into a new partnership with the Whitaker Bank, A Subsidiary of Whitaker Bank Corporation of Kentucky.
